Last month in Las Vegas, former two-division world champion Jessie Vargas (27-2) came up short in his pay-per-view showdown against Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao. Even though the result of the fight wasn't what he wanted, Vargas was glad that the fight entertained the fans and vows to come out with a win in his next fight.

"That was a good learning experience. Fighting the best and he is the best after Floyd (Mayweather). We were able to fill up the Thomas and Mack (in Las Vegas) and put on a great fight for the fans. It was a close and entertaining fight for the fans and I am looking forward to giving them another big performance. I owe them a victory and we will come back strong," said Vargas.

The 27-year-old Las Vegas resident was able to land some good shots in the fight but was surprised that Pacquiao fought cautiously, especially in the the second half of the fight. He ended up throwing less punches than he did in his loss against Mayweather in 2015.

Vargas promises to come back a better fighter and plans on putting the experience he gained to use in his next ring appearance.

"Once you fight against the best in the division, the fighter of the decade, a fighter who is known as often of the best ever and you were able to compete at that level and make it an even fight even though  I wasn't able to win - which pisses me off - but I have to accept it and use it as experience and we will use that experience to make us stronger," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

Vargas doesn't have a return date locked in but expects to be back in action in the first half of 2017.
