Anthony Dirrell returned to the win column after pitching a shutout over Marco Antonio Rubio in their 10-round super middleweight fight Sunday afternoon at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Scores were 100-90 across the board in favor of Dirrell, who was fighting for the first time since losing his super middleweight title earlier this year.

There weren't any knockdowns in the bout, nor did the threat of a knockout ever surface. Rubio took several clean shots all night, but—despite appearing in less-than-stellar condition in moving up in weight—boasted better punch resistance than had been the case over the course of his career.

After 10 predominantly one-sided rounds, Dirrell did a backflip in celebration of his first win in more than a year. His last victory earned the cancer survivor a super middleweight title, only to concede the crown to Badou Jack in a major upset earlier this year.

Following his win over Rubio (59-7-1, 51KOs) came the insistence that a return to the title picture should be in his immediate future.

"I definitely feel that way," Dirrell (28-1-1, 21KOs) stated after the fight. "I had an off night when I fought Badou Jack. Everyone saw what I was able to do tonight. I deserve another shot. Jack, Groves, let's go."

The bout aired live on CBS, as part of the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series.
