Despite having the International Boxing Organization’s lightweight title among his credentials, Daud Yordan is eying a bigger goal in the world boxing scene.

Daud is gearing up to invade the World Boxing Organization (WBO) with his next bout — even it means losing his greatest achievement so far: the IBO world title.

“I want to move to the WBO as I want to [take on] top level fighter,” Daud told the Jakarta Globe on Friday.

Asked why he is not considering the IBO and WBO unification title bout, Daud said he may consider the option.

“I know there’s always a possibility for a unification title bout. But that’s up to my management . Let them make the decision for me,” he said.

Should he opt for the cross-jurisdiction match, he would have to square off against WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford of the United States. Crawford took the title after defeating defending champion Ricky Burns of Great Britain at Glasgow earlier this year and managed to defend it mere months later in July, when he knocked out Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa. He is going to defend his title in the coming months against Raymundo Beltran.

Even with his IBO title, Daud has yet to enter into the WBO lightweight ranks. To make the cross over, he would have to take on one of its top rated boxers.

“I don’t mind if I have to start from scratch. Fighting in the WBO is like coming home, as I started my international career there,” said Daud, who secured the WBO Oriental featherweight title in 2009.

Last year, Daud clinched the IBO lightweight title when he defeated Daniel Eduardo Brizuela of Argentina in Perth, Australia. He defended his title for the first time after defeating South African Sipho Taliwe in December 2013.

The 27-year-old boxer is currently undergoing additional training in his hometown of Ketapang, West Kalimantan, as he awaits his next fight.

“I try to always stay in shape, so I won’t have to struggle so much when preparing for my next bout. I really hope I can get a fight before the end of this year, but my promoter said he’s now working on my next fight. I’ll be waiting for my next opponent,” Daud said.
