WBO Featherweight Title holder Scott Harrison (25-2-2, 14 KO’s) has been arrested after an incident at a nightclub on Sunday. Last month, the Scotsman was bailed on charges of breach of the peace, refusing to leave a licensed premises, resisting arrest and police assault. Harrison now faces trial in September.

 

Harrison, whose most recent bout was a defence of his title against Nedal Hussein on November 5th, 2005, has a scheduled bout against Gairy St Clair (37-3-2, 17 KO’s) this upcoming Saturday, which manager Frank Maloney has said will still go ahead.

 

In other news, after coming off a dubious unanimous decision victory over former WBA Welterweight champion Luis Collazo, Rick Hatton has said, “If I had my choice I would fight the winner of the Castillo-Corrales fight, but it's up to my team”. Clashes against Miguel Angel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jnr and a rematch with Luis Collazo are also realistic possibilities.

 

Enzo Maccarinelli (23-1-0, 17 KO’s), who is the WBU Cruiserweight champion, has announced that he will now be trained by Enzo Calzaghe, the father and trainer of WBO and IBF Super-Middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe. Maccarinelli will now move to the Newbridge gym after Charlie Pearson, who was his trainer for seven years, retired.

 

Former WBO Featherweight champion “Prince” Naseem Hamed has been sentenced to fifteen months in prison for dangerous driving after his £325,000 Mercedes crashed on May 2nd, 2005. Hamed will now have to put his planned boxing return on hold.

 

Peter Anthony died at the age of 83. Anthony was a respected Welsh boxing trainer who produnced over fourty Welsh champions from the Rhoose club. He was suffering from cancer.

 

IBF Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Title holder Kevin Mitchell (19-0-0, 13 KO’s’) comfortably retained his title after stopping Kirkor Kirkorov in two rounds. The twenty-one year old found Kirorov an easy obstacle on his way to extending his unbeaten run. Mitchell is a promising world title prospect from Romford, England.
