Edgar Sosa, the WBC's silver flyweight champion is gambling his number one challenger status with a high stakes fight against his nemesis Ulises "Archie" Solis this Saturday.

Not only that, but Edgar is fighting at the Pan American Stadium in Guadalajara- slap bang on Archie's home turf.

The prize is a world title challenge. While the loser is going nowhere fast.

Early in his career Edgar lost a split decison and his undefeated status to Archie in 2001 and a majority decison two years later.

Edgar, who could have chosen a much easier opponent prior to the big one, is under no illusions about encounter number three with Archie. He said: "This will be an exacting test to show I'm ready for a world title fight, because Archie is a great fighter. He's only been defeated twice."

"Since we've fought back then, I've gained a wealth of championship experience, my manager Jacques Deschamps has given my career direction, and my attention to training and my concentration are sharper. I've also fought and won four times last year.

"In this fight I'm going to take care not to give any of the early rounds away. This time, it's going to be a different story."

Edgar said all of this on a visit to the WBC's weekly press conference at their Zona Rosa Offices in Mexico City.

Archi, who was contacted via a conference call wasted little time greeting Edgar and complimenting his opponent's career. He said: "It's going to be a very hard and tough fight. We've both gained a lot of experience along the way. It's also going to be a techinical fight, and I'm ready! Can't wait!

"It's an opportunity for me to fight for the WBC and whoever wins this fight is the official challenger for the title. I'm going to capitalize on this opportunity."
