Starfight Productions presented another thrilling night of boxing action Friday, May 9 at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, FL.

In the main event, resurging junior welterweight Derrick Samuels (15-3-1) maintained his winning ways with a 1st round stoppage over Donnell Logan (10-16-2, 5KO).  A body shot did in the Tennessee journeyman, as he was unable to recover.

Streaking teenaged junior middleweight Keith Thurman (5-0, 5KO) continues to wow ‘em at every turn. His latest victory came with a 1st round destruction of normally durable Jessie Davis (9-10, 6KO). After taking massive punishment in the early part of the round, Davis was hit with a left hook to the body and a huge right hand that sent him to the canvas for the full ten count. The end came at 2:45 of the first round. All five of Thurman’s pro fights have ended in first round knockout.

In a barn burner, Carlos Rivera improved his record to 13-3 by beating tough Carlos Vinan 7-6 by six-round unanimous decision. Rivera had Vinan on the run toward the end but the bloody Vinan would not go away quietly. Judges scored the bout 58-56 (2x) and 59-55.

In a huge upset, Jesus Mendez 2-0  of Houston Texas lost a split decision to North Carolina native and pro debuter Jason Rorie 1-0. Mendez was dropped in the first round, which is nearly impossible to overcome on the cards in any four round bout. The judges scored the bout 38-37 (2x) for  Rorie and 37-38 Mendez.

Nick Ianuzzi (6-0) made easy work of Willy Chisolm (6-4) by stopping him in the third round.  After being rocked and taking too much punishment the referee stopped the bout.

A pair of local female featherweights went all out in a four-round, with Tampa’s Adewirki Lopez (1-0) outlasting local fan favorite Jenna Shiver (6-3-1) of St. Petersburg. Adewirki dominated early in the fight and looked as if she was going to have an easy night, but Shiver came storming back late in the third and stunned Lopez in the fourth. The judges had the fight scored 39-37 across the board.

Ahsandi Gibbs 6-0  won a unanimous decision over game Tim Hall of Athens, GA.  Judges scored the fight 40-36 on all cards.
