Rising prospect Ryan Garcia (15-0, 13 KO’s) is very serious about his statements in securing a showdown with WBA 'super' super featherweight world champion Gervonta Davis (20-0, 19 KO’s).

There are many who believe Garcia is biting off a little more than he can chew at the moment.

Garcia is currently coming off the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision over Jayson Velez.

According to Garcia, he was simply demanding a fight and Davis made it personal.

“He’s been making comments on my fights and saying I’m a bum, but that’s how it started – he took offence because I said I wanted to fight him. It’s not personal it’s business, and then it just turned into something else," Garcia told Boxing News.

The situation has become so personal that both boxers are planning to fight each other in a sparring session behind closed doors - but Garcia is far more interested in making an official fight in the ring.

“We’re quite serious, he said he’s coming to California Monday, so it looks like we’re going to get some work in Monday and then there it is,” Garcia said. “But I really do want to fight him, I don’t care about sparring, I want to fight him, I don’t need headgear, I don’t want that.”

Garcia believes that a world title shot is potentially two fights away.

“I know probably in the next two fights I should get a chance for a world title, whether if it’s with Gervonta or not,” Garcia said.

“I’ve been talking to [promoter] Oscar [De La Hoya] and we have our plans. Gervonta is definitely on our radar so we’re thinking about it, I’m going to have a meeting with Oscar on Saturday and we’ll talk from there.”

As BoxingScene.com reported on Thursday, Golden Boy Promotions is currently trying to finalize a fight between Garcia and Mercito Gesta.
