Junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera is back in training and eyeing a return to the ring in October, Thompson Boxing Promotions General Manager Alex Camponovo told BoxingScene.com.

“He’s already back in the gym,” said Camponovo, who also serves as Thompson Boxing’s matchmaker.

Camponovo also expressed that Herrera’s return to the ring could be televised.

Herrera was scheduled to fight Brandon Rios on July 7th at the Home Depot Center in Carson. However, Rios suffered an injury to his right arm, ultimately canceling the fight.

Herrera was scheduled to face unbeaten Karim Mayfield on August 17th in the San Francisco area. However, Herrera suffered a back injury during training and had to withdraw from the fight.

In his last fight on April 14th, Herrera (18-2, 7 KOs) lost a hard-fought 10 round unanimous decision to Mike Alvarado. His last victory was a 10 round majority decision victory over Mike Dallas on June 24th of last year.

No word yet as to whom the Riverside, CA resident would face.
