During a radio interview with BoxingScene.com's Carlos Irusta, former WBO super featherweight champion Jorge "La Hyena "Barrios confirmed an earlier story on BoxingScene, that he postponed a planned return on July 29 because a deal is nearly complete to fight former triple world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales of Mexico on September 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight would take place on the undercard of the mega star clash between the welterweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Victor Ortiz, and superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., with HBO televising.

The announcement comes after a judge in Argentina granted Barrios (50-4-1-1, 35 KOs) permission to leave the country for a fight. He was scheduled to face Morales (51-7, 35 KOs) last December in Tijuana but a court order prevented him from leaving the country and he was forced to withdraw. Barrios is still dealing with an ongoing court battle which stems from an automobile accident which took place last January.

"I was going to fight on July 29 in Tucuman. But the fight was postponed because I'm being programmed with Erik Morales on September 17 in Las Vegas, on the undercard of Mayweather and Ortiz. I have not yet confirmed the news, but I'm really looking forward to that fight. I'm training very hard to get there and I'll continue to train. The judge gave me permission to leave the country to fight. A few issues are still outstanding that involve finalizing a fight of this magnitude," said barrios.

Because there was some concern over whether or not Barrios would be able to leave the country, British boxer Anthony Crolla brough in a possible replacement on standy.

"Because it took a judge to grant me permission [to leave Argentina], they found another opponent for Morales. But now, as I have my permit, the fight [with Morales] is back on the table. We spoke with Golden Boy Promotions and we discussed that there is no problem with boxing in Las Vegas. We're just missing an answer from Jose Sulaiman and his son [Mauricio], because they wanted to make this fight for the title at 135-pounds."
