Devastating southpaw puncher Denver Cuello will fight Carlos “Little Spider” Ortega of Panama in a WBC minimumweight Silver title bout which will also serve as a title eliminator for the WBC belt currently held by Wanheng Menayothin of Thailand.

Cuello’s manager/trainer and promoter Aljoe Jaro informed BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Spots that the WBC mandated the eliminator between newly ranked No. 1 Cuello and Ortega who is ranked No. 2 with the fight scheduled for sometime in February 2015.

Aljoe Jaro said the title eliminator will be held either in the Philippines or Panama depending on the outcome of negotiations between the handlers of both fighters.

The winner of the eliminator will fight for the title against the champion within 90 days which would mean that should Cuello win he will fight for the title in May or June 2015.

Aljoe Jaro also mentioned that undefeated 29 year champion Wanheng Menayothin (36-0, 12 KO’s) who won the title when Mexico’s Oswaldo Novoa retired in the 9th round last November 6 is scheduled to defend his title sometime in February but no other details were available.
