Puerto Rico's Yankiel “El Doctorcito” Rivera, a promising former Olympian, has turned professional after a very successful amateur career.

His amateur track includes a participation in the Tokyo Olympics as Puerto Rico's sole boxing representative, as well as participation in two (2) World Amateur Championships (Hamburg 2017, Belgrade 2021).

Within Puerto Rico’s amateur ranks, Rivera has been completely dominant since capturing the 108-pound (52kg) junior national championships in 2015.

He was Puerto Rico’s national champion at 108-pounds in 2016 and has been the 114-pound (52kg) national champion ever since 2017.

In all, Rivera compiled an amateur record of 133-14, with 38 KO’s.

Given his evident technical capabilities, his amateur background and exciting boxing style, Rivera could be part of the interesting mix that is brewing within the 112 and 115-pound divisions.

These flyweight divisions are aging in their principal figures, except of course for Jesse "Bam" Rodríguez, who recently proved what the future of these divisions looks like.

Rivera will start campaigning at 112-pounds (flyweight), with the intention of progressively moving up in weight.

Rivera is advised by Puerto Rico-based attorney Miguel Ortega, a former Puerto Rico Professional Boxing Commissioner who has advised boxers and promoters such as Austin Trout, Emmanuel “Manny” Rodríguez, Subriel Matías, Fresh Productions, Universal Promotions and JRO Events, Inc. However, Rivera is still weighing all of the options for his boxer at the promotional level.
