As Gennadiy Golovkin figures out his 2021 campaign, plans continue to move forward in determining the number-one contender to his title.

Wasserman Boxing has secured the rights to the IBF-ordered middleweight title eliminator between Patrick Wojcicki and Esquiva Falcao. The newly formed company—which merged with Team Sauerland earlier this year—submitted a winning bid of $175,590 during a purse bid hearing conducted Tuesday from the IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey.

Top Rank—Falcao’s career long promoter—served as the lone other bidder for the session, bidding $110,000 for the bout.

With the winning bid, Wasserman Boxing is now required to stage the contest in the next 90 days.

Germany’s Wojcicki (14-0-1, 5KOs) has been out since November 2019, when he scored a 4th round knockout of Robert Swierzbinski. The bout came after Wojcicki scored three consecutive wins in IBF regional title fights to advance in the sanctioning body rankings.

The upcoming title eliminator will mark a considerable step up in competition for Wojcicki, who has fought exclusively in Europe and just once outside of Germany.

Brazil’s Falcao (28-0. 20KOs) has been considerably more active by comparison. The 2012 Olympic Silver medalist and current unbeaten middleweight contender is coming off of a 4th round stoppage of former title challenger Artur Akavov this past February in Las Vegas. The win extended his current five-fight knockout streak.

The winner will become the mandatory challenger to Golovkin (41-1-1, 36KOs), though with a title fight not likely to surface until 2022. Golovkin regained the IBF title in a 12-round decision win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko in an October 2019 war that was hailed by many outlets as the Fight of the Year. One defense has followed, with Golovkin satisfying his mandatory challenger obligation in a 7th round knockout of Kamil Szeremeta last December.
