Willie Limond is out of his fight next week.

The 37-year-old, who was set to challenge for a fringe WBA belt, has withdrawn from the showdown.

Former British, Commonwealth and EU king Limond (39-5, 11 KOs) was slated to challenge the undefeated Liverpudlian super-lightweight for his WBA Continental crown on January 21.

But the headline fight for the ITV4-screened bill at Preston Guild Hall, which also features Anthony Cacace, Atif Shafiq, was thrown into disarray after it was revealed to Boxing Scene on Monday that Limond won’t be in the opposite corner to 14-0 (10 KOs) Davies on the night.

It has been disclosed, courtesy of British Boxers, that the 27-year-old will instead come up against a foe familiar to British fans in the shape of Zoltan Szabo.

The Hungarian, 22, has boxed on these shores three times before in his 17-fight career which he began after turning pro last February.

‘Sticky Man’, as he’s known, holds a stoppage win over former WBO European lightweight champion Stephen Ormond and was beaten by current WBC Silver super-lightweight king Ohara Davies before he went on to lose a rematch with Ormond just eight weeks after their first clash.

Szabo (14-3, 6 KOs) recently lost in a challenge for the vacant WBC Youth interim super-lightweight title but has will challenge Davies Jr. for his trinket in front of a national television audience.

As part of the card, which is being promoted by Neil Marsh in association with Poxon Sports, Jack Arnfield will defend his WBA International middleweight crown against Mick Hall in a rematch and there will be action for undefeated trio Zach Parker, Mark Jeffers and Nathan Wheatley, alongside Joe Wood and Bill Hodgson.

In other news, Macklin’s Gym Marbella announced three new signings on Wednesday.

The Puerto Banus-based outfit agreed a deal to sign Belfast featherweight Ciaran McVarnock.

The 24-year-old is undefeated in seven with one early (6-0-1) and will now fight under the banner of former fighter Matthew Macklin’s management company.

Derry super-bantamweight Tyrone McCullagh (5-0, 4 KOs) and Belfast welterweight Lewis Crocker, who has a deal with promoter Frank Warren but has yet to make his debut, are the other two names to sign contracts.
