New York - Nicholas Walters (26-0, 21 KO's) lost his title on the scales last Friday but got the decision victory over previously undefeated Miguel Marriaga on Saturday night. Walters has made a lot of noise knocking out names like Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire. Many fans in attendance at The Theater in Madison Square Garden and those watching on television were expected the same type of performance.

While he may have not got the knockout, he did drop Marriaga in the ninth round and earned a lopsided decision. Walters felt the 8 month layoff played a part in his performance and on him not making weight.

“We lost the title on the scales,” Walters told BoxingScene.com. “It was always tough to know you lost the title on the scales. There was a lot of issues. I’m coming off an 8 month layoff against a guy who’s never been beaten. He’s strong and tough to put down. He didn’t want to lose his unbeaten record and it was real tough.”

Walters’ feels he did what he could to get Marriaga out of there but in boxing you’re not always going to get the knockout.

“You’re not always going to get the knockout in boxing. I see Mayweather all the time boxing twelve rounds for much millions and he didn’t do what I did today. He runs around the ring while I try to end fights. But its boxing, you’re not always going to get the knockout”.
