Johnathon Banks is one of the fighters who not only shined in the ring as a fighter, winning the IBO world title at cruiserweight prior to a run at heavyweight, but also as a trainer in the corner, guiding the likes of former unified world champion Wladimir Klitschko and now heads up a stable of fighters that includes IBF and IBO world middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin and former WBC world champion Badou Jack.

Since countless successful nights working with Wladimir Klitschko, Banks' career as a trainer has taken off, with elite talents such as Gennadiy Golovkin and Cecilia Braekhus enlisting the services of the Detroit powerhouse.

Banks indicates that Golovkin will first make his mandatory defense against Kamil Szeremeta when boxing resumes, and then he wants a trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez.

Golovkin is coming off a very tough fight with Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

He said, "I've really enjoyed working with Gennadiy Golovkin. 'G' has been a pleasure to train, he is really enjoying training here in Vegas and I believe the switch has benefited him a lot. He has gotten out of that old routine and his body is reacting in a positive way because of it.

"When we fought Sergiy Derevyanchenko he wasn't 100% but G wanted to fight and he did. I knew going into the fight that Sergiy was going to be a tough fight and I was right on that one. He's a great man Sergiy and when I next see him I will give him a hug as he is a genuine and humble person in the same way Gennady is.

"Gennadiy was really enjoying training prior to the COVID-19 outbreak as we were preparing to defend his titles against Szeremeta and I believe Gennady still intends on fulfilling his obligations to fight Szeremeta when called upon. I believe Gennadiy is improving still and he was showing those improvements in camp prior to the camp being postponed due to the outbreak.

"Of course Gennadiy wants to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez again in the future. Canelo is a pure boxer, so you're not going to bring anything that he hasn't seen before. What we would bring though is a different approach to what you have seen in the past two fights against Canelo. I think G would be happy to face him at 160 or 168 and I honestly believe that if the fight was at 168 it would be an advantage to G as he is naturally the bigger man."
