Brian McIntyre has no qualms making bold predictions when it comes to his star charge Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.

The longtime trainer of the WBO welterweight titlist from Omaha, Nebraska, stoked the flames in a recent interview regarding a potential 147-pound full title-unification fight between Crawford and WBA, WBC, and IBF champion Errol Spence Jr. The fight has taken renewed urgency after Spence demolished Yordenis Ugas last month at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to unify three of the four welterweight titles.

Nothing about Spence’s brutal beatdown of Ugas, however, changed McIntyre’s thinking about how a Spence-Crawford fight would go down.

“Man, Bud gon’ dominate him,” McIntyre told FightHype.com “Bud gon’ dominate him, just like I said in my tweet. Bud gon beat the sh!t out of him. Mark my words. That’s what I said."

McIntyre explained that he believes the southpaw Spence, a native of Desoto, Texas, cannot trouble Crawford inside the ring because Spence continues to “still do the same thing.” The comment might be in reference to Spence’s relatively unflashy, but effective, style of fighting. While Spence has a reputation as a bruiser who likes to break down his opponents over the course of a fight behind his jab, Crawford, a titlist across three divisions, is often lauded for his knack for improvisation – his ability to adapt to different styles and scenarios within the course of a fight.

“The reason why I say this is because I’ve been watching Spence a long time,” McIntyre said. To me, he’s still doing the same thing. He may have gotten stronger, he may have improved on some of the things that he’s doing in camp, but [speaking] as a trainer, he’s still doing the same thing. If he ain’t changed then, he ain’t gonna change by the time he get in there with Terence. That’s why I say what I say.”

McIntyre was mum on details regarding the fight but seemed to be confident that a deal could be made, nevertheless. Crawford is currently a promotional free agent, so it is thought that a fight with Spence, who is handled by Al Haymon of Premier Boxing Champions, should be easier to make than ever before. Previously, Crawford was signed to Top Rank Inc., which rarely does business with PBC.

“It should happen,” McIntyre said. “It’s what the public wants. It’s what Terence wants. I’m sure Errol want the same thing. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope and see.”
