Like most of the boxing world, Terence Crawford begins to salivate as a collision course between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko draws near. Firstly, however, both parties will be asked to take care of business in their respective showdowns.

In the case of Haney, after making it look relatively easy against George Kambosos Jr. on June 5th, in Melbourne, Australia, the two will battle it out in an immediate rematch on October 16th. Roughly two weeks later, Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) will end a near one-year hiatus on the sidelines when he takes on Jamaine Ortiz on October 29th.

If everything falls into place, Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, will look to pit them against one another in the first quarter of 2023. Though Crawford acknowledges that their possible showdown will be a razor-close one, he believes that Haney will have his hand raised in victory.

“I’m going with Devin,” said Crawford during an interview with BoxingScene.com. “I give Devin the edge.”

Before Lomachenko opted to lend a helping hand to his native land of Ukraine as they continue to defend themselves from the ongoing Russian invasion, the 34-year-old former Olympic gold medalist had done a masterful job rebuilding his name.

In October of 2020, the pound-for-pound star was knocked off his high horse following a close but clear unanimous decision defeat against Teofimo Lopez. Since then, the Ukrainian southpaw reeled off two consecutive victories, the latest coming against former world titlist, Richard Commey.

Still pegged as a notable star, Crawford views Lomachenko as a well-established fighter with otherworldly skills. However, if a showdown against Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) does come to fruition, the likely date of their bout would come around the Ukrainian’s 35th birthday.

Bearing in mind his age, paired with the spry young legs of Haney and his own incredible skills, Crawford is simply of the belief that Lomachenko, while great in his own right, would be in over his head.

“The youth, the movement, the boxing IQ. But you never can count Lomachenko out. It’s a 50/50 fight in my eyes.”
