He's not the best boxer that Freddie Roach currently trains, but there's no doubt that the seven-foot, 285-pound Taishon Dong is his biggest.

The Chinese heavyweight has been working with the renowned trainer for the past month or so at the Wild Card Boxing Club.

The 27-year old Dong, who has a record of 5-0 (3 KO's), is still very green and very much a long-term project.

"Y'know, if you saw me working on the mitts with him, you'd say - 'Wow, this guy is going to be champion in like a week' - but then when he spars he's not like that, yet," said Roach, with a chuckle.

"But he knows the fundamentals and the mitt work he's very good. I told him, 'if you can make those adjustments you do with the mitts in the ring while you're boxing, it's going to happen quickly,'" said Roach, who is the third trainer employed by Dong, who was first under the guidance of John Bray and then Buddy McGirt.

Dong, who is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, last fought on May 22nd at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, where he stopped Lance Gauch in one round.
