Becoming an undisputed champion meant the world to Vasiliy Lomachenko. Against Devin Haney in 2023, he thought he had officially gotten it done. But, despite believing he should’ve been given the decision, Lomachenko has learned to accept the outcome. Could that have been his final chance to hold all four titles? That’s a question the 35-year-old will have to answer. However, in terms of regaining his championship status, he’ll have an opportunity in the coming months.

As reported by BoxingScene.com, Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. have finalized a deal that will see them get it on in mid-May for the IBO and vacant IBF lightweight title.

With a need to aggregate more belts, Shakur Stevenson plans on tuning in. Although Kambosos is fresh off a win over Maxi Hughes and Lomachenko is still distraught over what took place against Haney, the former Olympic silver medalist is expecting the Ukrainian to win without breaking a sweat.

“I think Lomachenko stops Kambosos,” said Stevenson on his social media account. “I don’t think Kambosos is on a high level.”

Even with Kambosos pulling off the upset against Teofimo Lopez to become a unified champion, Stevenson has never thought highly of him. His skills are rudimentary and his power is innocuous from Stevenson’s point of view.

Lomachenko, on the other hand, is someone that Stevenson reveres. He might be in the twilight of his career, but Stevenson believes he has a ton left in the tank. For most of 2023, he did his best to get Lomachenko to fight him. That, of course, didn’t happen. Now, with the 35-year-old still proving that he’s one of the best fighters around, Stevenson is hoping that 2024 will be the year where they finally stand across the ring from one another.

“After, I think that’s the fight for me. I think me and Lomachenko gotta lock-in.”
