NEW YORK – Shadasia Green beat the most accomplished opponent of her career Saturday night to move closer to the fight she really wants.

Green stopped former IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Elin Cederroos in the sixth round of their WBC 168-pound elimination match on the Amanda Serrano-Erika Cruz undercard at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. Her victory made Green the WBC’s mandatory challenger for undisputed super middleweight champion Franchon Crews (8-1, 2 KOs), who defeated Cederroos on points last April 30 at Madison Square Garden to become their division’s fully unified champ.

The 38-year-old Cederroos (8-2, 4 KOs), of Vasteras, Sweden, was knocked out for the first time in 10 professional fights. The 33-year-old Green (12-0, 11 KOs), a Paterson New Jersey native who is promoted by Jake Paul’s company, has won 10 straight bouts by knockout or technical knockout.

Referee Danny Schiavone stopped their scheduled 10-rounder at 1:08 of the sixth round. Cederroos was still standing when the bout ended, but she had taken numerous flush power punches from Green, who previously dropped Cederroos in the third round.

A counter right hand by Green buzzed Cederroos with just under 1:15 to go in the sixth round. Cederroos backed up and moved all the way across the ring, into her own corner, after absorbing that shot.

Green knew the end was near and unloaded a barrage of power punches that hurt Cederroos worse. Cederroos again moved across the ring, this time into Green’s corner, where Green caught her with another right hand that prompted Schiavone to stop the bout before a bloodied Cederroos could take more punishment.

Cederroos’ right hand backed Green into the ropes in the opening minute of the fifth round. Green blasted Cederroos with a right hand as they fought in the center of the ring several seconds later.

Backed into a corner, Green caught Cederroos with a left hook that moved her backward a few seconds before the fifth round ended.

After tasting the canvas in the third round, Cederroos pressed the action for most of what was a competitive fourth round.

Green nailed Cederroos with a right hand to the middle of her face that knocked Cederroos flat on her back with 58 seconds to go in the third round. A stunned Cederroos quickly beat the count and fought back to make it to the end of the third round.

Cederroos drilled Green with a left hand as Green backed in the ropes late in the second round. Green landed a right to the body early in the second round and wobbled Cederroos with a right hand up top about 20 seconds later.

Cederroos landed a right hand early in the first round, when she pressed the action against a harder puncher.
