In the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, Esquiva Falcao (19-0, 13 ko's) lost a very controversial decision when two points were taken for holding in the last round.

The 14-13 result show that the deductions gave Ryota Murata the edge to win the gold medal. Falcao never forgot that, and never will.

“He was holding me too, all the time. Then the ref took two points away from me,” - says the Top Rank promoted fighter.

If Esquiva had won, he would have been the very first Brazilian to reach the Golden Glory in Olympic boxing, an achievement that Robson Conceicao did later, in the 2016 Rio games. That's the reason why he's so resilient in guaranteeing a new shot against the Japanese superstar, but now in the pros.

“I want my revenge! It wasn't fair and I'll never forget that. Murata won the WBA title and now I'll take it away from him as result. That's how I'll avenge it for me and my people, plus, I'll take back the belt that was robbed from Eder Jofre in Japan”. - said a very motivated plate medalist after one more TKO win last Friday, against Jose Miguel Fandino, in Kissimmee, Florida.

Falcao is referring to the two only losses of Brazilian legend Eder Jofre (74-2-4, 52 KO's). “The Golden Bantam”, as known, lost twice to Fighting Harada, in 1965 and 1966, in two controversial decisions, both in Japan. With the first split-decision victory, Harada grabbed the WBA and WBC belts from Jofre, who always complained about the scores and the fact that his conqueror never went to Brazil to fight him.

“Me and my trainer (Robert Garcia) know exactly what to do to beat him. We're prepared, motivated and angry. I'll come back from Japan, or from wherever they want, with the belt. Murata will pay for the robbery in the Olympics. Then, I'll go after the other belts, but right now I'm only seeking this fight, badly!”

There are sources with knowledge of the details who indicate that Falcao will be indeed the first to challenge Murata for the title in June, probably in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, as Top Rank is reportedly looking to put together the the rematch of the 2012 Olympics.
