Rolando “Rolly” Romero had good reason to believe that his star power was on the verge of reaching unprecedented highs. With a victory over Gervonta “Tank” Davis representing his final hurdle, Romero’s confidence vaulted through the roof as their May of 2022 showdown neared.

But, despite his overarching bravado, Davis quickly proved that he’s a step above, blasting his man via sixth-round stoppage. Although he’s come to accept his defeat, Romero would love nothing more than to avenge his lone blemish. However, regardless of his desires, Romero knows good and well that an eventual sequel with his longtime rival simply isn’t in the cards.

“I want Tank but he’s not gonna fight me so f--- him,” said Romero to Fight Hub TV.

The little hope that Romero once possessed, immediately evaporated the moment Davis announced that he would be taking on Hector Luis Garcia. Officially, the two will battle it out this upcoming weekend at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

With his preferred choice no longer an option, Romero has attempted to lure an even bigger fish from the pugilistic sea. Although he campaigns at 135 pounds, Romero has promised to become the first man to defeat current unified welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr.

Spence though, has waved Romero off, claiming that a showdown between them would be nothing more than a tune up. Instead, Spence will continue to sort out his options with former WBA and WBC titlist, Keith Thurman, emerging as the likely front-runner.

Although he's continued to take on all comers, Spence's end goal is to eventually face Terence Crawford for welterweight supremacy. While admirable, Romero has grown frustrated with Spence’s lack of interest. In his view, the pound-for-pound star is simply avoiding him at all costs.

“Spence don’t wanna fight me,” continued Romero. “I tried to make it happen. He don’t want sh!t to do with me.”
