BoxingScene.com recently spoke to newly crowned WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo "El Chacal" Rigondeaux (9-0 7 KOs).  The fighter of Cuban descent defeated Rico Ramos via 6th round knockout this past Friday night on a special edition of Shobox.  After being dropped by Rigondeaux in the first round, Ramos appeared hesitant and stayed on the outside so that he wouldn't be countered by the same punch that put him on the canvas.  Compubox credited Ramos with only 15 landed punches throughout the 6 rounds further illustrating Ramos' lack of aggressiveness.

"I think he felt my power early on and he didn't want to fight but we worked hard in the gym and we prepared well for the fight.   We worked very hard for the fight and the knock out came on its own," Rigondeaux would tell BoxingScene.

After the fight Ramos complained that he was hit behind the head moments before he was knocked out by a body shot.  Rigondeax disputed that he landed an illegal punch.  The Miami, FL based fighter did reveal that he sensed weakness in his opponent and that is why he went straight at Ramos once the ref restarted the action.

"You can see from the video that there was no headbutt or hit behind the head.  I hit him with a liver shot and he was done.  I tried to take advantage at that point.  I thought that he was a little weak and I wanted to go for the kill."

The 31 year old said that he has no immediate plans to move up to the featherweight division.  He said that he can easily make the super bantamweight limit and probably could get down to the bantamweight limit if he wanted to.

"For now we are staying put.  You saw for the fight I weighed 120 (120.5).  I can weigh 118 or 119.  I am an athlete and I can make the weight easily.  I take care of myself between fights so weight isn't a problem for me," said Rigondeaux.
