Former champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga, has promised to punish Mixed Martial Arts fighter Rene "Level" Martinez (4-0) on July 27th in Managua, Nicaragua. On May 4th in Managua. Mayorga, a former welterweight and junior middleweight champion, is now looking to win world titles in MMA and plans to have Martinez as his next victim. Mayorga is training hard in MMA, with two training sessions per day. He weighs 171-pounds, four pounds under the agreed upon fight weight.

"He will be afraid when I look at him. I've been a true champion. He fought bums and strangers in parks. The risk is for him, because I'm a real fighter. I will beat him easy. I have only lost to champions and I've beaten champions. The truth is - he does not impress me. He has a lot of muscle, but that's by steroids, pure hormones. Those who love me, thanks for supporting me, because they're going to see me fight and win," Maryorga said.

Mayorga made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts against Wesley Tiffer and won by TKO in the second round. But there were several issues after the match was over. For starters, Mayorga weighed in 20-pounds over the contracted limit of 165-pounds. Then during the fight Mayorga launched an illegal knee to the back of Tiffer, which made the fighter scream out in pain. At that point Tiffer was unable to continue and Mayorga was declared the TKO winner.

The Mixed Martial Arts Commission held a press conference in Managua on May 11, and chairman Ardeshir Zack Asagary announced that Mayorga's victory had been changed to a no-contest. The boxer was also suspended for three months. Due to some legal manuevering by Carlos Mario Peña, Mayorga's attorney, he was able to void out the existing suspension [something having to do with a violation of the labor code of Nicaragua].
