Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions says the winner of the upcoming middleweight unification between WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) and IBF champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) will be the best fighter in the middleweight division.

The HBO Pay-Per-View unification takes place on October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The winner will become the mandatory challenger to the WBC middleweight championship. Miguel Cotto, who holds the WBC crown, will defend his belt against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21. The winner will have to face the Golovkin-Lemieux winner.

Regardless of who wins in November or the IBF title fight between Andy lee and Billy Joe Saunders or the WBA clash between Peter Quillin and Danny Jacobs - Loeffler feels the Golovkin-Lemieux winner will be the top dog at 160-pounds.

“David is the biggest puncher that Gennady has faced and Gennady is the biggest puncher that David has faced,” Loeffler said. “The winner of this fight is the best middleweight in the division.”

“Gennady is focused on his next opponent but it’s my job to look ahead. And HBO is predicting that Gennady’s fight against the winner of Cotto-Canelo is the biggest fight since Floyd (Mayweather) fought (Manny) Pacquiao.”
