Welterweight Prichard Colon (16-1, 13KOs) is now breathing without the assistance of machines, according to a statement from his family.

Colon was badly injured during his October 17th bout with Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia.

During the bout Colon complained numerous times to the referee that Williams was hitting him to the back of the head. The referee deducted one point from Williams  for rabbit punching.

The fight ended in controversy when Colon's corner mistook the ninth round for being the tenth and began to remove the boxer's gloves, which made the referee issue the call for a disqualification.

After the fight was over, Colon felt dizzy and passed out in the locker room. He was taken to a local hospital where a brain bleed was discovered. Colon had emergency surgery and placed in a medical coma to speed up the recovery process.

The family is now waiting for the boxer to wake up, but it's not clear on when that will happen.
