Plaza Mexico, Mexico City - WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs) stopped former welterweight beltholder Kermit "The Killer" Cintron (33-5-1, 28KOs) in the fifth round. Cintron went down in the fourth after getting banged with two hard right hands. He made it up and survived until the end of the round, but he was rocked badly at the bell and struggled to get back to his own corner. A cut broke open on Cintron's nose from the fourth round damage. Cintron tried to go out on his shield in the fifth, and started taking a slow beating to the head and body, and he looked dead tired. Alvarez landed a combo against the ropes as the referee jumped in to save Kermit from further damage. Photos by Rene Perez.
