Mangua, Nicaragua - In his second fight as a Mixed Martial Artist, former two division boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-1, 23KOs in boxing, 0-1, 1NC in MMA) was swiftly disposed of by Rene "Level" Martinez (5-0).  Martinez took Mayorga to the ground almost immediately.  Mayorga appeared to have Martinez a choke, as he attempted to get a submission but soon let go.  Mayorga tried to escape the ground but as he scrambled to his feet Martinez caught him in a guillotine choke, which forced Mayorga to submit almost immediately.  The time was 1:45 of round 1.

After being dispatched so quickly, we can only wonder if this will be the last time we see "El Matador" in any form of combat sports.  Only time will tell.  During his post fight interview (in Spanish), Mayorga was clearly upset and close to tears while addressing his opponent and fans on the microphone.

On May 4th in Managua, Mayorga made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts against Wesley Tiffer and won by TKO in the second round. But there were several issues after the match was over. For starters, Mayorga weighed in 20-pounds over the contracted limit of 165-pounds. Then during the fight Mayorga launched an illegal knee to the back of Tiffer, which made the fighter scream out in pain. At that point Tiffer was unable to continue and Mayorga was declared the TKO winner. The result was later changed to a no-contest.
