AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas - In a highly anticipated showdown for the IBF welterweight title, Errol Spence (25-0, 22 KOs) dominated and beat down Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) over twelve rounds to win a lopsided unanimous decision to retain the title. Garcia, who holds the WBC lightweight title, was moving up by two weight divisions.

Spence came out to establish his jab in round one. Garcia was looking for openings. The first was a real chess match with few punches landed. Spence was getting more active with his jab and long punches. Nothing land with real force, but he was touching Garcia here and there. Garcia began to let his hands go in the final minute, landing some shots to the body. Spence was working real heavy with the jab.

More activity from both in the third, with Spence landing solid left hands and going to the body with the jab. The jab continued to fire for Spence in the fourth and he was following up with bigger shots. Garcia was blocking a lot of punches, but taking enough of them as well.

Garcia came forward in the fifth, throwing combinations. Spence was able to block most of the shots and came back with counters. Spence was starting to land far more often with jabs and hard hooks.

Spence landing more hard shots during the sixth to the head and body. Garcia was starting to eat a lot of shots. He was taking them well and doing his best to fire back. It was more of the same in the seventh, with Spence controlling the action and hitting Garcia with accurate shots.

Garcia's nose was bleeding in the eight, he was taking a lot of shots to the head and body. It was domination at this point by Spence. Spence applied a lot more pressure in the ninth and he was looking to close the show. Spence was stalking him down and unloading with combinations to the point where it appeared the contest would get stopped.

They were fighting on the inside in the tenth, with Spence landing far more of the punches on Garcia, who was taking a lot of damage.  Spence was unloading on Garcia in the eleventh with both hands.  Spence tried to end things in the twelfth, but Garcia was able to hang on.
