Paul “The Punisher” Williams made a special appearance on BoxingScene’s official radio show The Boxing Lab and talked about a variety of things. Williams recently was in a tragic motorcycle accident that has unfortunately left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Paul attended the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez fight in Las Vegas this weekend as he received a special invite from Alvarez himself. Williams was originally supposed to be Alvarez’s opponent but was instead ringside to take in all the action.

Williams told the Boxing Lab that while there, he couldn’t help but think in his head what things he would’ve been able to capitalize and do in there against the reigning WBC Light Middleweight champion.

“Of course I saw the stuff I could take advantage of but I won't put it into play because I wasn't in there. I know if I would've got in there with him it would've been a good night. I know the fans would've really enjoyed it. He either would've got me or I would've got him but it wouldn't have been no stoppage. He wouldn't have stopped me, there wouldn't have been no stoppage. It would've been the whole night. A straight drag out, knock down fight just like I love it” said Williams.

Williams also received a personal invite from Sergio Martinez to go to his fight but he attended the Alvarez fight only because Alvarez had asked him first. Martinez and Williams have had two memorable fights with each winning one. While he didn’t see the Martinez-Chavez Jr fight, Williams still finds pride in being the last fighter to beat Martinez. In fact, he doesn’t want anyone to beat Martinez for a specific reason.

“Oh yeah, I actually don't anyone to beat him so I can get back in there and fight him!” said Williams as he drew smiles and laughter from the Boxing Lab crew.

“Everytime I see him fight I'm rolling with him. He's a good guy and he's the only guy that's beat me. He's the only that has bragging rights to say 'yeah, I knocked Paul Williams out'. He's the only one that has the bragging rights. Even though we both won one a piece I don't want anyone to beat him until I get back in there with him and me and him go again. So I'm always rooting for Martinez.”

Williams received a great welcome from all the fans at both the Alvarez-Lopez weigh in as well as at the actual fight. Williams not only expects to walk again but to eventually return to boxing and be able to give all his fans that support him more great fights.

It’s admirable and inspirational how Williams has dealt with such a tragic turn of events.

Let’s hope the boxing gods shine down on Williams and give him a full recovery as he is the epitome of a warrior inside and outside the ring.
