Manny Pacquiao confidant Rex 'Wakee' Salud has criticized Nonito Donaire Jr.'s decision to leave Top Rank in favor of Golden Boy Promotions.

Short of saying that Donaire was ungrateful, Salud said that "first, it was Top Rank who gave Donaire the biggest break of his career by arranging the [Fernando] Montiel fight." Donaire's spectacular 2nd round knockout win against Mexican champion Montiel last month had propelled the Bohol-born Filipino-American to superstar status.

"Second, if he wants to be fair," Salud continued, "he should have let Top Rank match the offer of Golden Boy before leaving Top Rank. I think he made the wrong move."

Donaire's decision to sign with Golden Boy has divided boxing fans about the wisdom of such a move. Those who support the Filipino Flash were saying that "it was a pure business decision and cashing in the biggest check sooner." Others however were afraid that the budding superstar's career may be undermined by the prospect of a long legal battle between Top Rank and Golden Boy over this issue. Top Rank claim to have a valid binding contract over Donaire until 2013, which Golden Boy believes is innacurate.

In the ongoing Pacland poll, 65% of more than a thousand votes do not favor Donaire's move while 25% support him and the remaining 10% were not sure.
