Junior middleweight contender Wale Omotoso (28-4, 22 KOs) picked up one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Omotoso dropped Curtis Stevens (30-7, 22 KOs) three times, before the contest was waved off in the third round.

Stevens, who made his name at super middleweight and middleweight, was trying to make a name for himself at junior middleweight - and Omotoso was his first opponent in the new weight class.

Stevens came out looking to do a lot of damage.

Known for his power, Omotoso was being very careful in the first round and using his defense, combined with movement, to keep away from the danger of Stevens.

But the tide changed quickly when Omotoso dropped Stevens before the first round was over.

"My coach told me to keep my hands up, be patient, box him and jab," said Omotoso. "He told me I shouldn't push it and that when the opening was there, I'd take it. That's exactly what happened."

And then Omotoso dropped Stevens for a second time in round two. Stevens came out in the third, like a man looking to get respect and began to rain down combinations on Omotoso.

Omotoso weathered the storm, and unleashed a big combination that dropped Stevens very hard - and the contest was waved off.

"I was just letting my hands go," said Omotoso. "On the second knockdown my confidence grew. I was glad to get the victory by knockout. I didn't expect it to go exactly like that. I was just listening to my coach. The second knockdown was actually with my jab. I have to talk to my team about what's next. I'm thankful for this opportunity. I'm so happy to have this win. Give me anybody next, I'm ready."
