Yet another tough assignment is in store for Joseph Adorno.

BoxingScene.com has learned that plans are in place for a crossroads bout between Adorno and former WBA featherweight titlist Nicholas Walters. The matchup is targeted to land on the March 27 edition of ProBox TV’s Wednesday Night Fight series from its central location at Whitesands Probox Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

Adorno (18-3-2, 15KOs) is just 4-3-2 with three knockouts in his past nine starts, though versus an exceptional level of competition. The 24-year-old Boricua rebounded from back-to-back decision defeats to Elvis Rodriguez and Edwin De Los Santos with a confidence-boosting fifth-round knockout of Jonathan Perez last November 4 in his hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania.

His lone other loss was a hard-fought decision in favor of then-unbeaten Michel Rivera in March 2022. Prior to that, Adorno scored a pair of tune-up wins following an eight-round draw versus Jamaine Ortiz when both were unbeaten in their spirited April 2021 battle in Orlando, Florida.

Missing from his resume of tough challenges is a former major titlist. That will change when he faces Jamaica’s Walters (28-1-1, 22KOs), who has won two in a row since he returned to the ring last year.

The 38-year-old Walters is now based in Panama City, Panama, though his last two bouts were rust-shaking knockout wins that took place in Colombia. The bouts were his first piece of ring action since November 2016, when he suffered a one-sided, seventh-round stoppage defeat to Vasiliy Lomachenko, who defended the WBO junior lightweight title that night.

Walters previously won a secondary version of the WBA featherweight title in December 2012. He upgraded to full title status after a sensational sixth-round knockout of Nonito Donaire in their October 2014 title consolidation bout.
