After scoring an impressive knockout over multi-division former world champion Vic Darchinyan (39-7-1, 28 Kos) last Saturday in Macau to retain his WBA "regular" featherweight belt for the second time, Jamaican Nicholas “The Axeman” Walters (24-0, 20 KOs) arrived in Panama along with his trainers and members of his managerial team.

“I´ll spend a few days at home before traveling with my father to Jamaica to celebrate this important victory with my many fans in the island but first will visit my manager Jacques Deschamps in Haiti who was unable to be in Macau with me in China," said Walters, who recognizes Darchinyan as a tough opponent. “One thing is watching him on tape and another very different one facing him in the ring. He is fast, accurate and very strong and I have to recognize that his complicated style gave me problems to set my strategy in the early rounds”.

About the perfect uppercut which sent the Armenian to the canvas in round two, the unbeaten champion said: “I knew he was not finished so Instead of going after him to try to finish the fight, I watched my defense because an experienced fighter like him can become more dangerous in such a situation”.

“The Axeman” is very satisfied about the way he knocked Darchinyan out to steal the show on a the “Featherweight Fury” boxing card presented by Top Rank at the Cotai Arena in Macao, and he expressed his thanks to his fans in Jamaica, Panama and all around the world.

“I scored the most impressive defining victory on a card which included most of the top featherweights in the world so I have to first thank my manager Jacques Deschamps and my team, my promoter Bob Arum and as well as everyone at Top Rank Promotions but specially to the World Boxing Association which recognizes me as their champion”, added Walters.

About a possible clash with super champion Filipino Nonito Donaire, “The Axeman” said:

“That´s the fight I would like, but Donaire who was badly cut in his fight also mentioned the possibility of giving a rematch to Vetyeka but I would like to fight at the quickest again as I want to be more active than I have been since becoming champion.

"I spoke with the South African after his fight and he is very disappointed about the way he lost his title and I understand him. Will I face Nonito next or not I do not know at this time and it may be too early to say, but my manager with, Mr. Bob Arum and the WBA will decide. I´m ready to face anyone at my weight."
