This past Sunday on "The Cornermen" Radio show Jesse Rican, Flawless and myself had a chance to discuss boxing with former light heavyweight champion Montell Griffin.  We discussed several topics such as the controversial punch that Gennady Golovkin planted on David Lemieux when he was grounded.

During the fight, Roy Jones Jr. - who was part of the HBO Pay-Per-View broadcast team - mentioned how he suffered a disqualification loss to Griffin for a similar punch that landed in their 1997 clash.

He also discussed Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev, his potential ring return and more.  Here are some of the highlights:

On Golovkin hitting a grounded Lemieux and how it compares to the incident which saw Roy Jones get disqualified.

Our situation was a little bit different. Triple G caught him with a good body shot. As fighters when you get a free shot you try to take it.

As far as my feet, Roy Jones didn't knock me down. I took an knee. Looked at the referee to catch his count and he hit me twice. He hit me once then load it up and hit me with a second punch. It was totally different from [Saturday] night.

The referee could have gave him five minutes to recover and took a point. Triple G won every round so it wouldn't have bothered him.

On GGG:

He's cleaned up the division. We have a fight on December 5th between Danny Jacobs and Peter Quillin. I would like to see him fight the winner of that fight. Everyone is saying Andre Ward but he is not a middleweight he's a super middleweight.

On Roy Jones Jr mentioning him on the HBO PPV telecast:

It just lets me know I am relevant. That I mean something to him. He put my name in a rap song. He talks about me every chance he gets. He talks about me all the time. It lets me know I mean something to him and I was a good fighter. Also if I was another fighter he wouldn't mention my name. I mean something the Roy Jones he keeps bringing me up.

On my loss in the first round in the second fight, I wasn't allowed to warm up. HBO stabbed me in the back but that is the past and it's over. That doesn't bother me anymore. I see Roy from time to time and I asked him why he always is saying my name. Talking wild about me on TV. He just laughs. He doesn't mean any harm so it doesn't bother me. You know what they say bad press is good press.

On the potential fight between Ward and Kovalev:

Right now since he has been so inactive I would love to see Andre Ward fight again. He had a lot of time off and is moving up and weight. I am looking forward to it. I heard he is having trouble making 168 so he moves up and gets another couple fights to get the rust off. Then he will have a good fight with Kovalev.

On his potential return:

Let my fans know I want to give it my all. Let's try to make it out there and do some damage in boxing. At 45 I feel good. I haven't put too much wear and tear on my body. If a fight is made in February maybe I can come back on.
