WBO European super featherweight champion Mitchell Smith (11-0, 4 KOs) will campaign in the featherweight (126 lbs.) division in the future after scoring a brutal 3rd round knockout of the over matched Antonio Horvatic (6-14, 4 KOs), Friday evening at York Hall in Bethnal Green.

The bout served on the undercard of the BoxNation telecast headlined by Ovill McKenzie vs. Matty Askin.

Smith, 22, had a good look at Horvatic for two rounds before uncorking a blistering combination of shots in round three, a left hook detached Horvatic from his senses but such was the speed of the devastating salvo that Smith hit the unfortunate visitor three more times on his way to the canvas.

The referee waved the bout off immediately and there was some concern as Horvatic lay motionless but thankfully the Croatian visitor returned to his feet and Mitchell was free to celebrate with his army of fans.

Smith will be a very interesting addition to the domestic featherweight division and a match with big ticket seller Ryan Walsh at the York Hall would be something special.

“I was enjoying myself for two rounds,” Smith told Boxnation. “I trained for six rounds and I have been out since November but I have knockout power. I know that I can make featherweight and I will do that to featherweights all day, I’m not being big headed but I am a big, big puncher.”
