Former world champion Mikaela Mayer (18-1, 5 KOs) is back in action this coming Saturday, when she faces Silvia Bortot at Manchester Arena.

The fight will be the second return for Mayer since her split decision loss to Alycia Baumgardner in their super featherweight unification from October of 2022.

Earlier this month, news broke that Baumgardner had tested positive for two banned substances in connection to her rematch win over Christina Linardatou in July. Baumgardner tested positive for metabolites of mesterolone and methenolone.

The immediate future of Baumgardner is unknown. She is currently the undisputed world champion at super featherweight. Each sanctioning body - the WBO, IBF, WBA, WBC - will likely conduct their own investigation on the matter.

Mayer is currently competing at junior welterweight and fully intends to head up to the welterweight limit of 147 - so a rematch with Baumgardner is no longer on her radar.

She hopes Baumgardner can clear her name, but also believes it's going to be an uphill battle based on the information contained in Baumgardner's drug test report.

"Honestly, the levels that were in her system were pretty damn high. She's entitled to the due process and to go to trial or whatever, but I just think she's going to have a hard time proving those levels - they seem pretty damn high. It's sad, I hope it's not true, but it feels pretty real to me," Mayer told Radio Rahim of Seconds Out.

"Unfortunately, you can't take back how it's affected the division or other females that she's gone up against in the past couple of years, because she's had a great run. But she's not my problem anymore. She's gotta figure it out and clear her name if she can.. she's not my problem."
