Mark Heffron could be in line for a major outdoors title fight.

The former British middleweight title challenger, 28, managed to get a fight in before boxing stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Heffron stopped Ondrej Budera after just 59 seconds of his scheduled six-round contest at Oldham Leisure Centre to move to 25-1 with 19 quick finishes.

And his manager, Kevin Maree, is mapping out a trajectory that could see him take centre stage in the centre circle in front of a raucous home crowd at Boundary Park, the home of Oldham Athletic Football Club.

Boxing Scene understands plans are well underway for a fight to take place there next summer, potentially with a world title at stake, depending on how quickly boxing returns to action.

“The plan was to get four fights against ranked fighters and then next summer do a show outdoors at Oldham [Athletic] Football Club,” Maree told the Oldham Times in an interview you can read at https://bit.ly/2WMtMf0.

Heffron has suffered, as mentioned, just one defeat in the paid code, against Liam Williams for that aforementioned British middleweight title back in December 2018.

Frank Warren promotes Heffron, as well as Williams, the WBO’s number one contender at middleweight to Demetrius Andrade, the world champion.

But Heffron, now up at super-middleweight, is understood to be excited at the prospect of showcasing his skills in front of big numbers at the stadium, having regularly sold-out the aforementioned Leisure Centre.

“The minimum would be a major, major title for that show,” Maree added, “but ideally it would be for a world title.

“The problem you have, though, is that you can’t just take a world title, it has to be available and he has to be accepted for it.

“The ultimate goal is a world title if we can manoeuvre him into that position next year.”
