This past Saturday night, Antonio Margarito won, but he wasn't pleased with the victory.

The Tijuana-based fighter said he should meditate to figure out what his next step in boxing will be.

Margarito, a former welterweight world champion, admitted that he inexplicably got tired from the third round of the fight with Carson Jones and he was hit with punches that he shouldn't have allowed.

However, he still feels that victory was deserved, having done enough to gain the advantage before the ring doctor stopped the fight at the end of the seventh round.

Margarito, 39, dismissed any negative statements, revealed that his training camp was not the greatest.

But he still wants a year-end trilogy showdown with WBO junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

"First, I want to clarify something, I think a lot of people did not notice this.... a lot of people thought that my corner had stopped the fight, but it was the doctor, he told me that it was dangerous to keep fighting because the cut was going to open up more in the fight. A lot of people did not know, even my relatives thought I did not want to continue," Margarito told ESPN Deportes.

"But I never really thought I was down on the cards. I think I won the first three rounds well and then I do not know what happened to me.. if the height hit me, I really did not feel the way I expected to feel. I got tired in the third or fourth rounds, I was pulling air through my mouth. Obviously Carson Jones has experience and everything, but I was the one who did not feel the way I wanted to, but we still won and that's what I'm left with."

"I do not know what to do [next], I need to talk to my family, I have to see what Zanfer says, see what they think, talk to my ex-managers (Francisco Espinoza and Sergio Díaz), to see what they think. When they told me about the fight in Chihuahua... I thought of [training at] Big Bear or the Otomi Ceremonial Center but it was already [getting close to the fight] and we did not have time to get a good camp. But I trained well, boxed and trained well in the gym. And although I won, I really did not like it."

"I think if [the Cotto fight comes] I'll get excited I'll be ready. When you fight with a fighter of that stature you leave everything aside and you do what is necessary to win. People want to see a third fight because they really want to see what will happen. The pace of the fight [with Jones] affected me, but also Cotto is not the same as he was before. Regardless of that, if he wants it we are willing."
