The topic surrounding who’s the best fighter in the world is subjective but it all depends on what you enjoy most.

For some, Oleksandr Usyk deserves a bit of praise as the best pound-for-pound fighter around. He cleaned out the cruiserweight division and is just one win away from doing the same in the land of the heavies. Naoya Inoue is another fighter who deserves his props.

Of course, the 30-year-old Japanese star achieved undisputed status in two separate divisions in back-to-back years. From pernicious punching power to his underrated defense, the holes in his game are few and far between.

Lastly, Terence Crawford, probably more than most, has earned his spot amongst the rest of his elite peers. Despite being 40 fights into his career, he’s yet to have a close call. Prior to Inoue becoming a two-division undisputed champion, Crawford beat him to the punch.

It might all be conjecture but Paulie Malignaggi believes that at least one more fighter should be thrown into the mix under certain circumstances.

Artur Beterbiev did what he does best recently, give out another one-sided beatdown. With his latest victim coming in the form of former super middleweight champ, Callum Smith, it was a case of another top-tier fighter failing to make it to the final bell.

He might be as violent as they come, but Malignaggi isn’t quite ready to throw Beterbiev up there with the rest of the current greats. If, however, he takes on fellow light heavyweight titlist, Dmitry Bivol, and aggregates his WBA to the rest of his collection, then a discussion needs to be held regarding whether or not Beterbiev, not Inoue, Crawford, or Usyk - is the best fighter in the world.

“If Beterbiev is able to beat Bivol too,” said Malignaggi on Paulie TV. “Now you gotta really start considering him as number one pound for pound.”
