Even though he suffered a clear defeat last Saturday against Devon Alexander, knockout artist Marcos Maidana made a public appearance on Wednesday in Panama City where he attended the World Boxing Association’s  Annual Awards Dinner.

Maidana was among many great world champions who were present at the fantastic event and had some time to speak with the press.

“It feels great that the boxing world still recognizes me, especially after the ugly defeat I suffered against Devon. I’m so grateful to all Panamanians and boxing people in general who encouraged me to keep on going. Even Amir Khan which whom I have a boxing rivalry told me to go ahead and will recover,” Maidana said.

Maidana received a trophy and a gold and diamonds ring from the hands of WBA President Gilberto Mendoza as one of the great champions of 2011.

“I had a horrible performance against Alexander. No excuses. Devon really beat be fair and square, he is a great boxer. Now I have to rest as I was more than two months away from my home and family. But I’ll come back to stronger to defend my title (the WBA Regular Super Lightweight belt which was not at stake vs. Alexander),” added “El Chino.

“I take all the critics and I know myself and my team have to think about it seriously. But I say don’t write me off because I’ll come back stronger”, Maidana concluded.
