Earlier this month, BoxingScene.com reported that Luis Ramos could return to the ring on a December 8th Golden Boy Promotions card. Ramos’ manager Frank Espinoza confirmed earlier this week that he will fight on that date.

Ramos now has an opponent whom he will face on December 8th; one who was once in Ramos’ shoes and is eager to salvage what could have been a promising career.

Promoter Dan Goossen told Boxingscene.com that 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo Williams will face Ramos in a scheduled 10 round bout.

The card will take place at the Hangar at the OC Fair and Event Center on the grounds of the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA.

The bout, along with some preliminary fights, will be aired on Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports Deportes.

Ironically, Ramos last fought at the Hangar on September 8th. It was his first significant bout at 140 pounds after having campaigned as a lightweight. In that bout, Ramos stopped hard-hitting veteran Noe Bolanos in the eighth round of a scheduled 10 round bout.

Ramos (23-0, 10 KOs) hails from nearby Santa Ana and is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

Williams began his professional career in January of 2001 after finishing an accomplished amateur career that culminated in him winning a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Beijing.

Williams (20-3, 10 KOS) suffered his first loss in 10 professional fights in February of 2003, losing a 10 round unanimous decision to Juan Valenzuela. After a surprising split decision loss to Manning Galloway two fights later, Williams was arrested and jailed for possession of cocaine with intent to traffic back in 2005.

After returning to the ring three years later, Williams won his next nine bouts before being stopped in the fourth round by Carson Jones on December 15th.

In his last bout on September 8th, Williams won a six round majority decision over Anthony Lenk.
