Like many fighters, the COVID-19 pandemic limited Erickson Lubin (24-1) to only one fight in 2020. He defeated Terrell Gausha on points in September.

Unfortunately for Lubin, his 2021 campaign will also only consist of one fight. He made a statement stopping former unified super welterweight champion Jeison Rosario in six rounds on the Gervonta Davis-Mario Barrios pay-per-view undercard in June in Atlanta.

He has now won six fights in a row since suffering his only career defeat when he challenged Jermell Charlo for his WBC super welterweight title in 2017.

Lubin has since worked his way up to the #1 mandatory position in the WBC rankings by winning multiple eliminators. With Charlo facing Brian Castaño for a second time in February, Lubin will have to wait even longer for his second shot at a title.

However, if Lubin’s trainer Kevin Cunningham has his way, his charge will be in a very meaningful fight before he fights for a title.

“Hammer has won three WBC eliminators and two final eliminators in his last four fights. After knocking out former unified champion Jersion Rosario in his last fight, he’s looking for the marquee names in the division. The belts are tied up in a undisputed rematch so we want the names (Tony) Harrison, (Julian) Williams, (Jarrett) Hurd or Danny Garcia. We are all on the same side of the street, so let’s see who really wants that smoke,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
