Anaheim, California - Former world champion Jorge Linares (47-5, 29 KOs) showed everyone that there is still something left in the tank when he knocked out Carlos Morales (19-5-4, 8 KOs) in the fourth round. Morales had never been stopped.

Next up could be a showdown between Linares and rising star Ryan Garcia in the summer. Morales had previously gone the full distance with Garcia and gave the young prospect a very tough fight.

Golden Boy Promotions, who have Linares and Garcia, have set aside a July date at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

In the first round of Friday's fight, There was a clash of heads in the first round, which opened up a small cut on Linares. In the second, they were trading good punches, with both having moments. In the third, there was a quick, short right hand that dropped Morales. He seemed hurt, but it was already the end of the round.

In the fourth, a combination of punches sent Morales crashing down for the full count against the ropes.

“I surprised myself, but I can demonstrate even more that. I wanted to see if I could capture a belt in a fourth weight class. He caught me, I was off balance, but now I’m back at 135 pounds. The best thing I could have done is go back home to Japan and train with Mr. Honda. I’m at the best moment in my career right now," Linares said in the aftermath.

“I think the most helpful is being mentally well and that’s why going to Japan helped. It provided nutrients, and makes me feel better. I’m back at 135 and I’m ready for the best at 135. I’m ready for Ryan Garcia and then we will see what happens.”
