Commonwealth heavyweight champion Lenroy Thomas (22-4-1, 10 KOs) is very confident that he'll be capable of knocking off undefeated rising prospect Joe Joyce (3-0, 3 KOs).

Joyce, who won an Olympic silver medal in the 2016 games, is being fast-tracked to a world title shot.

At 32 years old, Joyce has no time to waste and want to land a world title opportunity by next year if possible.

Joyce turned pro in October of last year and he went eight round in his pro debut before stopping veteran Ian Lewison.

His last two fights have failed to go beyond the first round.

The contest with Thomas will take place at The O2, on Saturday, May 5, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The main event will feature the highly anticipated rematch between heavyweight rivals Tony Bellew and David Haye.

Haye is the lead promoter for Joyce.

"I know that the [Commonwealth] chapter is over and I want to move onto better and greater things. I appreciate where I am at, but this is not it at all. I know I have accomplished this but I am onto the next thing now," Thomas told Sky Sports.

"I know they are pushing Joyce. I also know they are relying on his experience in the amateurs and the Olympics and the [World Series Boxing], and that is what it is, but he won't have fought anyone with my style, or my consistency.

"I know the guys he's fought and no disrespect to them, they are not me. I am a different animal. He's just a man. I know what I have to do, there's no pressure at all. I am going to go there to do a job and that's what I am preparing for. Is it going to be easy? There's a possibility it could not be, but I am ready for whatever comes. That's that."
