(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – USA Boxing’s best male youth athletes will make the long journey to Berdichev, Ukraine to test their skills against fellow 17 and 18-year-old competitors in the Klitschko Brothers Tournament, June 17-23.

The U.S. squad, which is made up of the 10 youth titlists from the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships, will depart tomorrow for the international competition. The national champions representing the United States at the event are: light flyweight Gilbert Renteria (Houston, Texas), flyweight Antonio Vargas (Kissimmee, Fla.), bantamweight Jarico O'Quinn (Lansing, Mich.), lightweight Lamont Roach (Upper Marlboro, Md.), light welterweight Alexis Urbina (Phoenix, Ariz.), welterweight Kareem Martin (Clinton, Md.), middleweight Alex Rincon (Carrollton, Texas), light heavyweight Elvis Figueroa (New Haven, Conn.), heavyweight John Luna (Milwaukee, Wis.), and Ronnie Cleland II (Butte, Mont.).

Renteria served as a training partner for 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas) for the recent Olympic Games, but this will be his first time competing in international action. Rocha and Luna traveled internationally in 2012 as well, competing in the Veles Cup, a junior division tournament this past summer. The Klitchko Brothers Tournament will be the first international event for the remainder of the U.S. squad.

The Klitschko Brothers Tournament is the first international tournament of the year for the youth division boxers following both junior and elite competitions, at which the United States enjoyed great success. Team USA has accumulated 55 medals in international competition in 2013 and will look to add to the total in Ukraine.

2000 Olympic coach Israel Acosta (Milwaukee, Wis.), Bernard Roach (Temple Hills, Md.), and Jose Renteria, Jr. (Houston, Texas) will serve as the team coaches for the Klitchko Brothers Tournament. Dr. Timothy Beste (Flower Mound, Texas) will be the team doctor and Don Rivera (Fairoaks, Calif.) will work as the AIBA official.
