No matter how hard he tried, Keyshawn Davis simply couldn’t get over the hump.

As an amateur, he ran across Andy Cruz on four separate occasions, including in the 2021 Olympic finals. While those matchups were close, Davis came up short each time. Those losses haven't put a dent in Davis’ confidence as a pro but he does become annoyed when Cruz’s name is brought up in any conversations.

Ultimately, Davis wants to get his hands on the Cuban again. However, he doesn’t believe Cruz wants any parts of him. If he does, it won’t end well for him.

“That man ain’t trying to fight me,” said Davis during a self-recorded video. “I will knock him out. He’s just not ready.”

Cruz, 28, is somewhat of a prodigy. There aren’t many fighters in the history of the sport who can brag about winning two gold medals, Cruz can. In the pros, he’s still a baby but even with just a pair of fights under his belt, the talent is obvious.

At the age of 28, Cruz is a bit older than most prospects. Meaning, he may feel the need to hit the accelerator button. Grabbing a world title is number one on his agenda, but Davis is hoping that on his way, he’ll make a pit stop and take him on.

So far, Cruz hasn't shown much interest. He views Davis as an inconsequential opponent at this point and someone who isn’t worth his time. Davis won’t chase Cruz around. If he isn’t focused on ending their amateur rivalry, that’s perfectly fine with Davis. Eventually, he believes they’ll stand across the ring from one another. Cruz’s only hope of knocking off Davis, however, is right now. In the future, the 28-year-old won’t stand much of a chance.

“The longer he waits, it’s going to get worse for him.”
