With his shoulders littered with gold, George Kambosos Jr. was convinced that he would undoubtedly cross paths with pernicious knockout puncher, Gervonta Davis.

As of now, of course, the two have remained out of each other’s way. Kambosos, after ripping away the WBA, WBO, IBF, and WBC “Franchise” lightweight titles from Teofimo Lopez, entertained the idea of facing Baltimore’s Davis. In any event, as Devin Haney bellyached, the newly turned 30-year-old acquiesced to his pompous demands.

Although he was confident in his ability to sully Haney’s record, Kambosos would go on to lose back-to-back contests convincingly. Now, as the former unified champion attempts to rebuild, he recently decided to take in the sights as Gervonta Davis made his successful return to the ring.

In front of a record crowd in Washington’s Capital One Arena this past weekend, Davis displayed patience before waltzing out of the ring with yet another highlight-reel-worthy knockout against Hector Luis Garcia.

While the end result was much to Davis’ liking, Garcia fought him on mostly even terms throughout. In the eighth, however, the 31-year-old Dominican ditched his initial box-first game plan in lieu of an all-out firefight. That aforementioned eighth round proved to be his downfall as Davis landed the fight-ending blow before the sound of the bell.

Though the former Olympian remained on his feet, cognitively, he confessed that he was unaware of his surroundings. Kambosos, admittedly, expected Davis to take care of business in explosive style.

The Australian though, acknowledges that Davis has the sort of one-punch KO power that can bail him out of a jam. Nevertheless, as he continues to up his level of competition, Kambosos wonders what the reigning secondary titlist at 135 pounds will do if he comes across a foe that won’t simply crumble underneath his relentless blows.

“That’s the thing with Tank," said Kambosos to FightHype.com. "Yes he’s got that extraordinary one-punch power that stops people and takes them out but he can get away with it now but the higher caliber fighters will be able to take them shots.”
