The domestic scene at cruiserweight in Britain is warming up.

Earlier this week it was announced that Richard Riakporhe (10-0, 8 KOs) and Jack Massey (16-0, 8 KOs) will contest the vacant British title, previously held by Lawrence Okolie, on Matchroom Boxing’s final UK show of the year at York Hall on December 19th as part of Eddie Hearn’s NXT GEN series.

Yesterday (Wednesday) it was revealed that Deion Jumah (12-0, 7 KOs) will defend his English title against Sam Hyde (15-1-1, 8 KOs) with a date and venue to be announced. The 26-year-old challenger from Sale, Cheshire announced the news on his Twitter account yesterday declaring “Let’s go to war!!” The fight will also act as a final eliminator for the British title.

Jumah beat Wadi Camacho (TKO 5) for the vacant English strap back in September following up on the back of his Southern Area title success late last year. Jumah is on a roll and is beginning to fulfil the potential that saw him promoted by Sauerland earlier on in his career.

Should Hyde come through successfully against Jumah he may find himself in a rematch with Riakporhe for British honours after the pair fought in Manchester last November for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental belt. Riakporhe emerged victorious in that battle after Hyde’s corner, led by Joe Gallagher, threw in the towel in round eight after sustaining a horrific injury to his left eye. To add insult to injury Hyde was up on all three judges scorecards (67-66, and 68-65 twice). Riakporhe has since went on to prove himself furthermore defeating legitimate challengers in Tommy McCarthy and Chris Billam-Smith.

Jumah v Massey and Riakporhe v Massey are two of three fascinating cruiserweight battles on the horizon. Billam-Smith (9-1, 8 KOs) squares off against Craig Glover (10-2, 8 KOs) for the vacant Commonwealth title against Craig Glover on November 23 in Liverpool as part of the undercard to Callum Smith’s homecoming world super middleweight title defence against John Ryder.

If you are a fan of the cruiserweights then tune into these fights because more likely than not they will deliver action-packed contests.
