Ismael Salas, head trainer for WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares is in London training David Haye for the rematch against Tony Bellew scheduled for December 17, from the O2 Arena (Millenium Dome), Greenwich.

BoxingScene.com/RingsideFightingNews.com spoke briefly with the veteran Cuban coach about the possibility that a fight between Linares and Mikey Garcia could take place in the coming months.

While holding the WBA's world title, Linares is also the WBC's Diamond champion at 135-pounds.

Earlier this week, the World Boxing Council ordered Linares and Garcia to face each other in a mandatory showdown to establish a single WBC beltholder at the weight.

"We still have no definitive information on this fight, the WBC has just announced that it is a mandatory fight, and we are attentive to know what will happen in the coming months in relation to this fight," Salas said.

Garcia has recently argued that he wants to continue his career in weight classes such as 140 and 147, but this mandatory fight at 135 pounds could cause Garcia and his team to try to return to a weight.

Since his most recent victory against Adrien Broner at junior welterweight, Garcia has expressed interest in facing fighters like Miguel Cotto at 154 and there has even been talk of a possible fight with Terence Crawford and others at 147 pounds.

Linares comes off a split decision win over Luke Campbell.

Regarding this fight, Salas said - "Jorge Linares had the opportunity to knock Luke out early in the fight, I think in a rematch we will be looking to finish earlier and not let the judges write their cards. If a rematch is made I think we would win before 12 rounds are over."

Salas added: "Linares has to make a trip to Japan very soon to fine-tune details with his promoter company, and then return to London."

However, Salas made it clear that they are willing to make that fight against Garcia, stating ... "that's the fight that we want!"

"Settling these fights takes time. I think both teams should hold some meetings and discuss the most important points like the purse for each fighter, the place and date of the fight and all those matters," said Salas.
